Milwaukee is set to embark on an exciting new chapter in its history as it prepares to break ground for the South Shore Cruise Dock this September. This development, located at 2320 S Lincoln Memorial Dr, will serve as the city's third designated cruise dock and is expected to play a crucial role in boosting the local economy and enhancing tourism in the region.

The new cruise dock is projected to cost approximately $9 million, with funding coming from various sources. A notable $5 million will be dedicated from Mayor Cavalier Johnson's budget, complemented by $3.5 million from the State of Wisconsin's Capital Tourism Grant and $500,000 from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Harbor Assistance Program. This collaborative approach underscores the importance of this project for Milwaukee and the broader Great Lakes community.
Economic and Tourism Boost
According to officials, the anticipated infrastructure improvements will significantly contribute to the economic landscape of Milwaukee, making it a key player in Great Lakes tourism. As travel for leisure resumes, Port Milwaukee is gearing up for an impressive 22 scheduled cruise ship calls in 2025, featuring a total of 44 itineraries from late April to mid-October. Cruise lines, including Viking and Pearl Seas, are setting their sights on Milwaukee again, further affirming the city's attractiveness as a cruise destination. Interestingly, the Victory Cruise Lines recently returned to Milwaukee after a seven-year break, indicating renewed interest and growth in the region's tourism offerings.
